Which symbol would you use to represent steps or actions in a flowchart? a dimond, rectangle,oval, or a circle?

Rectangles are used to show steps. A diamond is used to show a choice.

I think wikipedia has a more concise explanation of flow charts as opposed to your graphic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_chart

Well at least it doesn't show 28 flowchart symbols. AND towards the beginning of the entry it states The two most common types of boxes in a flowchart are: • a processing step, usually called activity, and denoted as a rectangular box • a decision, usually denoted as a diamond. and yes maybe I was being a bit too critical of the graphic you posted. :-)
