So because coding is so important, they're gonna make it so that coding is no longer the focus of the curriculum.  That makes little sense.

Ah, the author of that article has stated it poorly. "The new course will introduce students to programming but will also give them an understanding of the fundamental concepts of computing, its breadth of application and its potential for transforming the world we live in."
