@e.mccormick What is the best definition of epic? A. A tragic play about a heroic but flawed character B. A story whose main character is a god or goddess C. A long story in verse about a hero who takes a journey D. A short musical poem meant to be recited at feasts

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Hmmm... well, two of those look possible. Do you know which ones I can eliminate petty quick?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b and c

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I eliminated B because they were about heros, not gods. And D because they are not short. A and C are both possible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_poetry The heros were usually flawed but they also usually take a long journey....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so a

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Actually, I am thinking A is wrong. It says play. They were narritives, not plays.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so itsc?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Of those two, yah, I think that is the better choice. Normally I like people to find the answer, but in this case it is two really close ones. I think it all comes down to that word play.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Also, the idea of them being flawed is our ideal. To an ancient Greek, a guy that could lie well enough to deceive the gods might be respected for that skill!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oo ok because i was thinking a based on what you said but by your explaining i understand why its c

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, which is why I wanted to explain more. If yo look at the wikipedia thing, the key is the 10 points and the paragraph right after them. Those really define an epic poem. If you know that small part of the page, you should get the overall idea and can skip the rest.
