how did organic compounds get their name

OpenStudy (happinessbreaksbones):

Organic compounds got their name because most occur in nature or are biological in nature. The distinguishing feature of organic compounds is the carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bond. The major categories of organic compounds are the proteins (including enzymes), lipids, carbohydrates (simple and complex), and nucleic acids (the building blocks of DNA and RNA). Carbohydrates are a source of energy and include many sugars. Lipids are long chains of C-H bonds (mono, di, or tri) attached to an amino acid; hence the terms. Examples of lipids include mono and poly saturated fats and triglycerides. Reference: www.cliffsnotes.com hope this helped
