SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! Find the standard form of the equation of the ellipse satisfying the given conditions. Foci: (0, -2), (0, 2); y-intercepts: -5 and 5

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

@Euler271 can you help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wish i could. never learned foci :$

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

is there anyone you know that can help?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

@SolomonZelman could you help?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Do you know what the formula of the ellipse looks like?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

No :(

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Dang, I did this last year. Hold on let me think!

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

this right?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

this is one of them, the horizontal i think

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

this link might be helpful. http://www.mathopenref.com/ellipsefoci.html

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

yea it is the horizontal one idk which one im looking for!

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

ii dont get what im suppose to do

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

the foci is at the origin so h and k are 0 and 0, right?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

b/c the foci are at (0,−2) and (0,2) the center is at the origin, so at least we know it looks like

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

yea
