How does the sun provide energy to living organisms?

OpenStudy (prakharluv):

The sun gives energy to plants to make their food by the process of photosynthesis, right? So then animals like chickens, cows, goat, horse ect. eat those plants and got required energy....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so photosynthesis gives us what we need

OpenStudy (prakharluv):

yeah...but not directly.... by photosybthesis plant make their own food and got required energy...Herbivores form an important link in the food chain, because they consume plants in order to ingest the carbohydrates produced by a plant with the help of Photosynthesis. Carnivores in turn consume herbivores for the same reason, while omnivores can obtain their nutrients from either plants or animals...we can say that indirectly photosynthesis gives us what we need....
