given the trinomial 2x^2 + 4x + 4 predict the type of solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Becki Hey !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

imaginary numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It says 2 rational numbers, 1 national number 2 irrational and 1 irrational

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq @gorica @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm. Well, it can't factor, so you have to use the quadratic formula. Doing this gives you sqrt (-1) both answers, so I'm not sure what your answer would be. The i isn't rational or irrational...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh one of the anwers is 2 complex solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Sephora

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its your homework right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you expect us to do it for you by saying predict the solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea.but I want to understand it so I can do the rest!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you wont understand it if a you and a person do it step by step>DUH!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Naww really? @Sephora

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AmTran_Bus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YEAHHH...now find someone that is willing to help you step by step hun.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Goodbye :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cause you know im right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Naw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct Word: No. You might as well go to the English section for some help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Naw.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iNeedSeriousHelp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mightBEyourTEACHER I just help. not anwers

@DemolisionWolf

Directrix (directrix):

@crystelle Find the discriminant of the quadratic equation. See attachment.

Directrix (directrix):

The discriminant will tell what to expect in terms of the nature of the roots. But, find it first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey i don't know if you are done with this question, but any time you have a square like x^2, there will always be 2 possible solutions. using the quadratic equation |dw:1381354137404:dw| when the stuff under the square root (stuff actually being call the discriminate) then the following can be determined for the types of answers, or in other words the types of roots if b^2 - 4ac > 0 then the roots (answers) are real numbers and not equal to each other b^2 - 4ac = 0 then the roots (answers) are real numbers and equal to each other b^2 - 4ac < 0 then the roots (answers) are complex numbers and not equal to each other
