why sound cant travel in vaccum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@yogandhar Sound needs particles to travel through unlike light which does not need particles. IN vacuum there aren't any particles present so sound cannot travel through vacuum.

Watch the movie 'Gravity', although usually movies butcher the science of life in space, I think it does a good job at merging fact and cinematography! Gripping and informative :)

OpenStudy (rina.r):

Sound is the vibration of molecules, and since there is absolutely nothing in a vacuum, there are no molecules to vibrate. or Sound is made up of waves . Sound needs a medium to travel in. A vacuum is void of matter, thus no medium to transmit the wave.
