Just list all possible outomes when rolling 2 dice, i.e. (1,1), (1,2), (1,3), (1,4), (1,5), (1,6) (2,1), (2,2), (2,3), (2,4), (2,5), (2,6) (3,1), (3,2), (3,3), (3,4), (3,5), (3,6) (4,1), (4,2), (4,3), (4,4), (4,5), (4,6) (5,1), (5,2), (5,3), (5,4), (5,5), (5,6) (6,1), (6,2), (6,3), (6,4), (6,5), (6,6) So there are 36 possible outcomes when rolling 2 dice. Now, lets look at these 36 possible outcomes and lets determine how many of these 36 outcomes will the total be even or the total be less than 5? How many do you see from the 36? I see 20 outcomes in total. So the probability is 20/36 or 5/9 (if you reduce 20/36).
