Marcie solved the following inequality and her work is shown below: -2(x - 5) - 12 ≤ 4 + 6(x + 3) -2x + 10 - 12 ≤ 4 + 6x + 18 -2x - 2 ≤ 6x + 22 -8x ≤ 24 x ≤ -3 What mistake did Marcie make in solving the inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

on the fourth step. you divide by -8 right? the direction of the inequality sign changes whenever divided/multiplied with a negative(-) number. its supposed to be x ≥ -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so there is no mistake

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you divide and inequality by a negative number, you must flip the sign. So X is greater than or equal to -3.
