How does the principle of conservation of mass relate to chemical reactions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Conservation of Mass states that no matter can be created or destroyed. The atoms of matter can only be rearranged. In chemical reactions, properties change but this does not mean there is more or less matter in that object. It just means that the atoms are rearranged in a certain way that creates a new substance with different properties than the original.
