Among a group of people, 10% are from NYC and 90% are not. All people from NYC are under 18 years old, and 50% of those not from NYC are also under 18 years old. One person is chosen at random, and he or she is under 18. What is the probability that the person chosen is from NYC?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.9*.5=.45 .1*.55= .05 5.5% I belive that is the answer.

Could you explain a little bit more, please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We take the 90% and multiply by half we then add the 10% back in from nyc and multiply the nyc 10% times the 55%
