Explain why models might be used instead of words to communicate new ideas.
Simply because they show some kind of "meaning" to the idea. A "real touch" to it. Like if you did a science project on a volcano's eruption. Just putting words on the poster board wouldn't really induce the idea. That's why you make a volcano out of cookie dough and make it shoot out chocolate fudge lava!!!!!!!!! It comes across way better.
The way I use models is through computer simulations of a system (i.e. kinematics, brain activity). A model is supposed to simplify a complicated system so that it reduces the complexity, while still retaining essential aspects of the actual process. For example we use an 'inverted pendulum' model to simulate human walking. It is very close to the real result, but there are always variations and fluctuations.
hmm but that doesn't explicitly answer why to use models rather then words... Well in my opinion, words are symbols that are supposed to convey information. Sometimes tell fall short.
Thanks i like seeing from different perspectives :) it helps alot
heh thats the way to go, well its been fun! Got to go
