convert each rate using dimensional analysis. round to the nearest tenth if necessary. 30mi/h=_____ ft/min a.2640 b.264 c.880 d.2112
so A
how did you get your answer
First how many feet are in a mile? Next how many minutes are in an hour?
5280 and 60
With proper units please.
its the top divided by the bottom with dimensional analysis so (30*5280)/60
does the work the same for all problems like that
1 mile = 5280 feet. So 30 miles = 30 miles x 5280 feet / mile = 158400 feet. 1 hour = 60 minutes So 30 miles / hour = 158400 feet / 60 minutes = 2640 feet / minute
for all dimensional analysis yes it does
so can one of you walk me through one more problem because im trying to do the same thing but something isnt adding up
What is the next problem?
2.5 qt/min = ____ gal/h
there are 4 quarts in a gallon and 3600 seconds in a hour but the 2.5 quarts is confusing me
4 qts = 1 gal So 1 qt = 1/4 gal 60 min = 1 h 1 min = 1/60 h Think of 2.5 qt/min as 2.5 (1 qt) / (1 min). Substitute 1 qt and 1 min Iderived earlier) with proper units into the previous line.
\[\frac{ 2.5qt |60\min|1gal }{ 1 \min| 1hour|4qt }=\frac{150gal }{ 4hour}=37.5gal/hour\]
i dont understand 2.5 doesnt equal one cup
srry one gallon
In 2.5 qt/min we are replacing qt with 1/4 gal and replacing min with 1/60 h.
oh ok so thats why i mutliplied by 1 and the 4 was multiplied by 1 twice?
