Use the Chain Rule to differentiate 7(square root)9z^3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rewrite the expression as 7(9z^3)^(1/2). Keep in mind that the derivative of u^ (1/2) is (1/2) u 6(-1/2) du So in our problem, the derivative will be 7 times (1/2) (9z^3)^(-1/2) times 27z@. You can simplify that if you want.

Thank you! I wasn't understanding the concept of using the actual "u" in this whole rule.
