Find the volume of the figure below.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

v= pi * r^2 *h ?

Directrix (directrix):

That formula is for the volume of a cylinder. Try again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

v = 1/3 pi * r^2 * h

Directrix (directrix):

Correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3 3.14*23.4^2*37.5 = 21491.73 ... it isn't one of my options.

Directrix (directrix):

The formula calls for radius. The 23.4 is the diameter. So, take half the diameter and then square what you get. Then, it should work out. Try again. I'll wait.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3 3.14 * 11.7^2 * 37.5 = 5372.9325

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're a life saver. (: @Directrix

Directrix (directrix):

I used just pi in my calculation. (1/3)*pi*(23.4/2)^2*37.5 = 5375.66 approx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I deserve a medal for effort. lol.

Directrix (directrix):

Did the problem state to use 3.14 as an approximation for pi? ----------- The only way to get stronger in math is to practice. Practice ups performance. The mistakes make you stronger. Seriously.

Directrix (directrix):

BTW, I ran your calculation through with the 3.14 and got what you did.
