Explain how changes in temperature affect the particle motion of a substance.

OpenStudy (vjordillo):

I think if there is an increase in temperature applied to a substance, the particles of it tends to be heated, and when a particle is heated, it will be on its excited state, thus making it faster to move.

heat causes particles to push away from each other, lack of heat decreases this effect.
