Of the founding fathers John Adams is best known for his contributions to establishing peace with Britain. As a diplomat in Europe, John Adams was a major negotiator of the eventual peace treaty with Great Britain. Adams' revolutionary credentials secured him two terms as George Washington's vice president and his own election in 1796 as the second president.
