if you draw one of 24 slips of paper numbered from 1-24. what is the probability of drawing a number divisible by 3?...I just need some help remembering

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how many numbers between 1 and 24 are divisible by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

favourable events=3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24 number of favourable events=8 total no. of events=24 p=favourable /total events

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice explaining surjithayer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then with the information stated how would you begin?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh you mean to divide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer would be 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are 8 numbers between 1 and 24 that are divisible by 3. And there are a total of 24 slips of paper. So it is 8/24 which reduces to what ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8/24 reduces to what ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[please note probability is always \le 1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 goes into its self 1 time and 8 goes into 24 3 times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly.....so it is 1/3 probability of drawing a slip of paper with a number divisible by 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok...I obviously didn't pay attention in class...thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem :)
