Still do not understand the role of telomerases! They prolong life, but promote cancer?

telomerases solve the end replication problem. see the lagging strand synthesis is not continuous. so at the end a part of DNA remains as single strand...so what telomerase does is it extends this template strand so that 1 more primer can get attached and the single strand is replicated. this prevents the loss of funcctional genes.
