12y^2=20y

OpenStudy (ranga):

Subtract 20y from both sides first. Then factor out common factor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that

OpenStudy (ranga):

Subtract 20y from both sides first: 12y^2 - 20y = 0 y is present in the first term and also in the second term. So y is a common factor. Also looking at 12 and 20, we can see 4 goes into both. So 4 is also a common factor. Pull 4y out and divide each term by 4y 4y(3y - 5) = 0 Therefore 4y = 0 or (3y - 5) = 0 So y = 0 or y = 5/3. 0 and 5/3 are the solutions.
