start by subtracting 15 both sides
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-19 and 44
OpenStudy (anonymous):
?
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
hey no, you cannot subtract apples and coconuts
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
-4x + 15 > 59
subtract 15 both sides
-4x + 15 > 59
-15 -15
-4x > 44
divide -4 both sides
x < -11

one more little question how do you know what to subtract on both sides
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
thats a very good question :)
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
-4x + 15 > 59
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
looking at that thing,
our goal is to ISOLATE x

since +15 is there on both sides,
to isolate x, i thought i would subtract 15 both sides, so that 15 goes away on left side
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
-4x + 15 > 59
-15 -15
-4x > 44
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
see, half the work is done already, just by subtracting 15 both sides
see how the left side looks lean and thin :)

ooohhh makes sense
