if I had 33 clothes and 30 pairs of shoes how many sets of clothes could I wear?

why?

each of the 33 clothes can be paired with the shoes 33 ways. each of the 30 shoes can be paired with the clothes in 30 ways. therefore, you multiply both to get total possibilities
