conversion cartesian to polar. help!! xy= 3 (x+y). the answer is r= 3(csctheta + sectheta). i subtituted the x as rcos theta and rsintheta.. and then im lost..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AllTehMaffs ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hallo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wanna help? please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what did you get when you substituted those terms in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got stuck up.. (rcostheta)(rsintheta) = 3(rcostheta + rsintheta)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly :) What does the left side simplify to? (You only have to move the r's around)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so.. r(costhetasintheta) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

almost. it's r*r costhetasintheta, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.. oh im so stupid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r^2 (costheta sintheta)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are too many letters in these maths methinks :) Yup, that's it! Now what can you pull anything out of the parenthesis on the right hand side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the r?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup yup. Do you see where it's going from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so divide its by r??
