comparison of medieval and renaissance art

OpenStudy (nurali):

Renaissance art and medieval art differ greatly in what they represent. Medieval art mainly depicts religious themes and portraits of kings and queens. Renaissance art depicts a certain joie de vivre and pleasure in living and loving the life we live. This mindset had already come to exist in Italy in the 1400's and slowly spread throughout Europe in the 1500's and 1600's. Renaissance art depicts more images of every day life, as well as images from antiquity, like Roman and Greek Gods. Afterall, Renaissance is French for 'rebirth,' so the Renaissance was the rebirth of these concepts after everyone had lived through the Dark Ages.
