OpenStudy (anonymous):

What type of questions is appropriate....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(for an openstudy feedback)

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

Sometimes surveys, complaints, suggestions, wishing (birthdays, celebrations) etc.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

And of course feedback :3

OpenStudy (hba):

If there isn't actually a section dedicated to a particular subject you may post it here. :)

thomaster (thomaster):

Questions without educational purposes that still have something to do with the site. Like feedback, suggestions, announcements etc. So actually birthday posts are spam, but we're very tolerant :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

birthday posts are spam? O.o

OpenStudy (zale101):

if u have any technical problems, go to OS feedback

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

No one so far has fully answered this question.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

hey there!

hartnn (hartnn):

The questions which are not inappropriate are appropriate. here, fully answered :)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

by whom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does it mean to be inappropriate though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that, who doesn't? You know what i meant by "what does it mean to be inappropriate"!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

type of questions that are considered to be inappropriate for feedback....

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

tough one!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

essay....

hartnn (hartnn):

the one that contains curse words, or asking for fans/medals(example : "Fan me!!") , the ones which are of particular subject questions, like Math ,music , science and all, Birthday post (but as said, we allow b'day posts), are all inappropriate. Appropriate ones include, suggestion for improvement, telling how much you like OS, requesting a particular feature, asking doubts on current features, (example : whats SS, how to become ambassador, and all)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Appropriate ones include, suggestion for improvement, telling how much you like OS, requesting a particular feature, asking doubts on current features, Dictatorship, the admins are scared the website will fall apart.....

hartnn (hartnn):

advertising a product or website or anything is also inappropriate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't ask how to become ambassador?!?!?!

hartnn (hartnn):

what solo ? how is that dictatorship ? negative feedbacks are also welcomed :)

hartnn (hartnn):

that i wrote in appropriate section!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

My bad!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

OK so how where the chess inappropriate? What is the rule what ever is not appropriate, is inappropriate or whatever is appropriate is not inappropriate? Going the second way less things will be appropriate....

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

B/c you didn't say a/t about chess and we don't know that they are inappropriate or that they are appropriate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see your point Solomon,

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Isaid it in a too complicated way!

hartnn (hartnn):

well, being inappropriate is a subjective issue, something can be appropriate for you but not me. so posts are app or not, will depend on the active mod perspective, who is looking at that question

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So I am able to report abuse if you close my question and actually win the case/report/(whatever)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Apparently, yes!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

if I were to post who is yellow, would that be appropriate?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Got watch out here, my medal might disappear!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

or will....

hartnn (hartnn):

if you feel abused, you can report anyone with a proper explanation, u can even report a mod. many type of questions are not useful for feedback section, such ones will be closed, and if inappropriate, will be deleted.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, i'll report on lets say you (gods forbid) and you will delete my question and/or all the conversation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can a mod break into people's profiles and change settings or just admins?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

inapp.....

hartnn (hartnn):

if you report, an e-mail will go to every mod. thats stays forever, also deleted questions/replies/chat messages are seen by every mod. so thats permanent on OS's server. No, mods CANNOT change any setting. Admins can do whatever they want.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Is it possible to report on admin?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

NO, right?

hartnn (hartnn):

sure, why not. report will go to every mod.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

They will get fired if they... though!

hartnn (hartnn):

if they really did anything inappropriate, then the decision will be taken by CEO herself.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I replied b/f you but appeared after.... don't think .... am an idiot!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

What is inappropriate for them?

hartnn (hartnn):

cursing and all, the same thing thats inappropriate for any1...they are humans too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

spying

hartnn (hartnn):

trust me, they don't have time to spy any1.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

They don't work 24 7

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

They have time outside the job and technically they could......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the difference b/w an Ambassador and a Moderator?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

crunch-berries .....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, you watch it too?.....

hartnn (hartnn):

@mathslover will explain that, he can do it way better than me :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why, ambassador is higher?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

BR...

mathslover (mathslover):

No @Rahcel_97 , ambassador is not a higher post than a moderator. The main difference between an ambassador and moderator is that An ambassador welcomes new users to the site, introduces them about the features, working and functions of the site, helps them to work , study here! Wherever, they get problem while working on this site, ambassadors are generally there to help them out. A moderator has many works as comparable to an Ambassador. Moderator helps the site administrators in managing the site's discipline , deleting inappropriate contents, taking right decisions on the abuse reports filled by users, in short, they moderate the whole site. They have the right to delete inappropriate post/content on the site which is against the code of conduct ( http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct ) .

mathslover (mathslover):

The posts priority goes like this : 1) Users 2) Ambassadors 3) Moderators 4) Administrators 5) CEO of OpenStudy!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

@hartnn, and @mathslover, you guys had different views and decisions to making a thread that says "questions" mathslover told me it was a good thing to do, using something along the line of "Glad you are helping...." and hartnn in a different thread where some girl w/ a long name came told me to never do that again. So what is the rule when it comes to making a thread that says "Questions?" ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

(I'll even out the number of medals per person...)

mathslover (mathslover):

Ambassadors have their different identification - a purple encircled "A" , and Ambassador written after their usernames. Moderators have Purple covered profile pic , purple usernames , moderator written after their usernames. @SolomonZelman - We, ambassadors are actually not the ones who operate this site who manage the rules and thus I actually , am not eligible to order you something. I was not sure aboutt aht , so just talked with you like that , so that you get both senses at a time : 1)You should not post such questions from now 2)The thing you did was not wrong but also not right acc. to c-o-c hartnn is a very experienced mod, he knows what is right and what is wrong. He was sure about that, so he talked and adviced in that way.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

not wrong and not right.... this website is really weird then!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Is it that hard to establish unambiguous rules, or a Definite and authentic law?

mathslover (mathslover):

Wrong according to OpenStudy code of conduct, Right for you only. If you are already having many opened questions in the group and many unanswered questions then it is sure that there are many users who want help. So, if at that time, you post a question asking the users whether they want help or not, then surely it is a weird thing to do. I hope your are understanding my point. Mods have to take care of everything.

mathslover (mathslover):

"Right for you only" - I meant to say that you may not spam there by posting such question, but some other users may post such questions for trolling or spamming. Hence it is basically "Wrong" by seeing all the aspects.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

What?! Right for you only.?! What does this even mean, I only asked why doesn't the openstudy have clear and again not ambiguous rules, isn't that what all people what and wanted?

mathslover (mathslover):

I will prefer you to have a look at : http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct that will surely clear your many of the doubts!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Even about chess! or things that you yourself said that are neither appropriate or inappropriate (I am refering to making an "Questions?" thread again)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

just read it and I don't see that making a thread "Questions" is inappropriate!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

U might think it does say, and I first thought "my bad...", but then...

hartnn (hartnn):

if not required so don't post. even though appropriate.

mathslover (mathslover):

"CHESS! LIVE! ASK & LEARN HOW TO PLAY!" - I don't think that it is any how related to OS Feedback group. Hence it is considered to be inappropriate for this group.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

See! Not required, to what extent? mathsolver, do you remember the "question?" I posted and which you appreciated? 95% I would not have been able to help if I didn't make that thread!

hartnn (hartnn):

if you want to help just go to open questions and help, no need to post it in a new thread everytime.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

(Ok I understand about chess)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Why do I have to repeat myself? See! Not required... a diff issue! mathsolver, do you remember the "question?" I posted and which you appreciated? 95% I would not have been able to help if I didn't make that thread! also is any question in open feedback required?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

required is totally different and separate issue and concept!

mathslover (mathslover):

See, @SolomonZelman - I appreciated your work because you were helping many users out there nicely. But still , it is inappropriate as you can better help the users individually in their respective posts.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

WHAT?! hartnn just said it is NOT INappropriate!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

hartnn: if not required so don't post. even though appropriate. NO?

mathslover (mathslover):

okay wait... follow hartnn - he is better known to all this. I am just saying according to my experience.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You just totally contradicted him, mathsolver.

hartnn (hartnn):

I am out of this argument. what i will do is : if i feel its not required, i will close it. if inappropriate, according to me, i will delete it and warn you. Period. have a nice day :)

mathslover (mathslover):

That's it thanks @hartnn

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

is any question in open feed back required? Am I destructing by posting "questions?" It is helpful! IF you guys feel i am stubborn i'll ask some other moderatoers and pros for explanation.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

mathslover, no one is the only one on the website,.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solomon, I totally agree with you, you helped me also with questions posting your thread.... I really don't understand why are they against your threads!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The good thing is that it is obvious that there is no problem with my thread, it is just that they don't want to admit they are wring. (Probably going to report abuse this comment .......)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

@lncognlto, what do you think about this conversation?

hartnn (hartnn):

one problem could arise, if we allow you to post a thread 'Questions?' then many other users might think to do the same (resulting in huge spams), then there will be many many such posts(as everyone can improve their SS by asking questions) and the posts which really require help might get masked or buried down, below these 'Questions' threads.

hartnn (hartnn):

if any user requires your help, he/she can simply tag you in his/her question and you can help there.

hartnn (hartnn):

now you see, how 'not required' things can be harmful ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

one problem could arise, ... finally a satisfying explanation tnx! You see why the previous ones were bad though....

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

As I see it, there are equally valid points to both sides of this discussion. Opening a post offering help in Mathematics may attract OS users who are currently on the site at the time needing help who might not otherwise be helped. However, as @hartnn says, these sort of posts will be used maliciously used if allowed, and thus will cause a spamming problem. Now this just a suggestion, but I was thinking. As numerous people may be said to be online on OS when users need help, but either the helpers are not present or they are helping elsewhere, maybe something like this can be done: Maybe in the settings option of a user's profile, there can be a list of subjects that that user is currently "studying" on OS. If a user is available to help in a certain section, he/she can tick a tick box next to the subject he/she wishes to help with. This can then somehow reflect in the chosen section that this helper is definitely available to give help. In order to prevent users being shown as available to help when they are no longer online, perhaps these settings could be deleted when the user logs off?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I think the best for me would be is to delete my account, after I get my help from wio. How do i do that?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Mathsolver and hartnn, I thought you guys left....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After i am done with my English course, OK?
