<< QUADRATIC INEQUALITIES>> A consultant advises the owners of a beauty salon that their profit (p) each month can be modeled by p(x) = -50x^2 + 3500x -2500, where x is the average cost that a customer is charged. What range of costs will bring in a profit of at least $50,000?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey @AllTehMaffs @shamil98 , you any good at quadratic inequalities?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure :) You want to set your p(x) = 50,000, then 50,000 = -50x^2 + 3500x -2500 0 = -50x^2 + 3500x -(52500) which is in the form ax^2 + bx + c and then you sing the song! x = (-b±sqrt (b^-4ac))/2a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that look familiar at all? :/ And I was taught a literal song to sing to remember that, which is why I said it... .... ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i got it. im just finishing up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, cool. ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=35±5i√371

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I often think boutique's are imaginary.... hmmm... What did you use for your A, B, and C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The range should be 20 to 50 methinks. That's what my graph says at least....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly. agh. idk what happened

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is between $21.78 and $48.22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just have to show work and obvs i did something really wrong. as soon as that i came up. but i was so invested at that point i just finished it out . haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my equation up there should be been b^2 - 4 ac and not b^(-4ac) you know that right :/ ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The point of no return. The partial credit point if it's on a test :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=0+%3D+-50x^2+%2B+3500x+-%2852500%29+ these are the roots

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which are the answers it wants

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The roots of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5(sqrt7 - 7) and 5(7+sqrt7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ha yes i knew that, don't worry you played no part in my failure . my teacher doesnt even do that . lol she hates kids and she doesnt teach. i've been failing on catastrophic levels this year in alg II .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sad panda :( sorry or crappy teachers :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eh . its okay . forget about the problem. she doesnt even grade work. not worth it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x = \frac{ -b ± \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} }{ 2a } \] we're gonna solve this damn thing, and be glad we did gosh darnit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol! i have the right answer it okay, its not worth it. i stil have 4 more pages of work before tomorrow. dont waste your time on it (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fine then ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol if you just love math you could do my other math hw. i wouldnt stop you (X started out this week with 16 pages to do, only 4 left . i feel proud.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The squareroot of a work load is a fine place to be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's so many pages good God

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know right. It was my fall break this week. All my gen-ed teachers piled it on. So I'm lucky I'm a art major, so majority of my classes are that, but still . my entire fall break i have been working. I didnt even hang out with friends because i didnt have time. and im still not done with them. Its 4 am, my class is in like 9 hours. Haulin butt right now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What class is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just Algebra II . Its just taking me so long because i'm teaching my self all of this , and im not great at math when im actually taught how to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Algebra II was hard too, if I remember. It's actually applying all the basic operations and stuff from Al. I and mixing them up with geometry and rational/irrational/imaginary numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah.. im not enjoying it. but its a mandatory course so i have to push through it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's your art specialization?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

textiles & apparel. but, minor graphic design, photography, and cosmetology. m also in drawing , painting, and clay courses. :D lol how bout you? whats your study of choice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you want to do fashion design then? I try to do pure and applied physics with minors in french/linguistics and math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it usually goes awry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, since i was seven years old, its been my passion. that sounds like a lot of brain power.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So does yours, so there!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, mines all right brain. you are heavy left brain. I would prolly keel over and die. I do not excel in anything left brain . im all hands on and "let me mess things up"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mine's mostly an excuse to be the oddly silent one in groups. OCD neat here :P I also do music/ music theory but that turns out worse than the others. Always forget which is left and right brain stuff. I'm best at literature and historical analysis, but never really liked it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anywhoo, been up way too long, as I'm sure you have too. Good luck with your 4 more pages ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice chattin' with ya ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol im super ocd . lol but yeah . see ya (:
