OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ x, y E IIR means?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

apply the role for n=2,3 , it well be easy for you to understand it for n=2 \[x^2-y^2=(x-y)(x+y)\]

OpenStudy (yttrium):

x means the first term y means the second term E means elements ||R means real numbers

OpenStudy (yttrium):

As in @ikram002p sample our x there is \[x^2\] out y there is \[y^2\] and since their powers are of two. hence they are element of real numbers. :) Hope you get it now.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\large x, y \in \mathbb{R} \) means x, y are Real numbers
