An internship is a job where you work for a company for a little bit. Just on a short term basis. Some are paid, many are unpaid. They are mostly so that you can get some experience in a particular field while still in college. They typically last one semester.

Apparently an internship is a on the job training for professional jobs. I always thought that a internship was about applying for a job and possibly dealt with training for that job.
