Create an addition word problem and a subtraction word problem using fractions. Show how to find the solution to each problem. Once you find the solutions to your problems, rewrite the solutions as either a terminating or non-terminating decimal.
John wants to buy a piece of candy for a tenth of a dollar. How much change will he receive if he hands the cashier three quarters of a dollar?
John eats two slices of a 6-cut pizza. He then eats one slice of an 8-cut pizza. How many slices in total has he eaten?

Sorry, that question was supposed to read: "How much pizza in total has he eaten?" John ate 2 out of the 6 slices in the first pizza, so, he ate 2/6th of the first pizza. He then ate 1 out of the 8 slices in the second pizza, so he ate 1/8 of the second pizza. The total amount of pizza he's eaten is (2/6) + (1/8) In this case, we would find a common denominator. Since 8x6 = 48, I will use 48 as the common denominator. (16/48) + (6/48) = [ (16 + 8) / 48 ] = (24/48) → This simplifies to: 1/2 So john ate half a pizza.
OK, Thnx : -)
