Use the quadratic formula to solve 4y2 + 8y + 7 = 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i devide by 4 before i begin?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No you subtract the 4 by like terms for to set it equal to zero?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can get it from here thanks '

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like terms remember that no matter what.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve the quadratic equation 12x2 - 3x - 9 = 0 by factoring.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here i dont devide either just solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know how to factor? Have you learned about FOIL?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i* heard about it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

FOIL is an acronym. First Outside Inside Last I'll give you an example of how FOIL works. Take a look at this: (4x + 3) (2x + 2) We need to take this, and turn it into a quadratic equation. We do this using FOIL. Remember what FOIL stands for. The F stands for FIRST. There are two sets of parentheses here. We multiply the FIRST parts, of each set, together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, that means.....4x times 2x. Which is 8x^2. (Eight X squared) You get it so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, the O stands for OUTSIDE. We need to multiply the OUTSIDE parts, of each set, together. So, that means 4x times 2. Which is 8x. Get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now, we need to keep track. We already solved the F part of FOIL. F = 8x^2 We also just solved the O part of FOIL. O = 8x
