(2x+5)^2-(2x+5)-6=0

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

notice is just a quadratic in disguise

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

if the question was x^2 - x - 6 = 0 what would you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand how to do it, but i want to see if i get the right answer

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

so what answer did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so far: 4x^2+18x+24

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

hmm.. I don't see how you got that nor how it factors out or works... :/ here, could you first find x when: x^2 - x - 6 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= -2 and 3

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes, and in that case I had substitute (2x+5) for x temporarily so if x = 2x + 5 so solve for x when 2x + 5 = -2 and 2x + 5 = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=\[\frac{ -7 }{ 5 }\] and -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant over 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 5

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yes :) so those are your answers for (2x+5)^2-(2x+5)-6=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh, i see what you did there
