PLEASE HELP. solve the system by graphing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73 can you help? I know its either a or b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (blurbendy):

it would help by first putting both of the equations in the form, y = mx + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, and I did that hence why I'm asking if it's a or b? because I got the graph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@blurbendy

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The graphs of a) and b) are identical BUT notice how the ordered pair or point listed that is the solution is different for each choice a) and b)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea that's why im confused....but I really think its, a?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

is that just a guess? It's ok if it is

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

remember every point is of the form (x,y) so something like (7,9) means x = 7 and y = 9 you use these x and y values to figure out precisely where you are on the 2D coordinate plane. In this case, (7,9) means you start at the origin, go 7 spaces to the right, then 9 units up to land at the point (7,9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SO wait, its b. right. @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

why b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes x = 3 in choice b but look at the intersection point, is the x coordinate really 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg this is so confusing I hate it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what is the x coordinate of the point of intersection

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how many units do you have to go to the left on the x axis to get to the point of intersection?
