i see that it is similar to the vertex form for graphing. y=a(x-h)2+k but i brought the a in front. which makes no difference of finding the vertex when 3 is obviously (3,-2)

vertex = -b/2a The person asking needs to understand what you are doing to get an answer, not just handed an answer. They need to be equipped to do it for themselves.
