can anyone help me with a word problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

john and sarah go to a baseball game; they have the same amount of money. he buys 2 hot dogs for $3 each, a soda for $2, a hat for $10, and a candy bar. she buys a shirt for $16 and two candy bars. they both spend all their money. how much does a candy bar cost?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Make an equation with what John spent on one side and what Sarah spent on the other. 2(3)+2+10+x=16+2x Now solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you. i'm just horrible at solving these

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. Word problems are my favorite. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would the candy bar cost $1.00?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, wait, wait. I was forgetting about the other x. then would it just be $2.00?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. :) Expensive candy bars. But maybe not for a ball game. LOL!
