This is trying to teach you that you are adding and there is no such thing as substraction. You put chips in a number line. . .positive number and negative numbers with zero in the middle. You count up from zero on the positive side eight chips and then you add negative 10 by going back toward zero and past to two places and that is negative two. Cause +8 + -10 = -2 that's the best I can come up with. . .
