you square the 6 first because the six is inside the parentheses when solving an equation, follow the the rule of PEMDAS which stands for parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction you always do anything inside the parentheses first (going in order of PEMDAS) then any exponents, then do multiplication or division (going in order of right to left) then addition or subtraction (again doing whichever comes first in order from right to left)
