Two 1000 kg cars drive east; the first moving at 45 m/s, the second at 30 m/s. What is the magnitude of the total momen- tum of the system? Answer in units of kg · m/s

OpenStudy (jfraser):

what's the formula for momentum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mass times velocity

OpenStudy (jfraser):

so each car has a mass, and each car has a velocity. the TOTAL momentum of the system must be equal to the sum of the 2 individuals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I just add the two momentums? Even if they are going different ways

OpenStudy (jfraser):

the problem says they're moving in the same direction

Oh ok I misunderstood the question somehow thanks :)
