A rational number is a number you can write as a fraction, where the top and bottoma re both whole numbers. The negative sign is irrelevant, so we just need to know if sqrt(127) is rational. The answer will be no, because you will not be able to get it down to a fraction with whole numbers. Another way of checking, is rational numbers end in decimals. Irrationals will keep going forever.
