1. what is the problem asking
2. what are the key pieces of information given in this problem ?
3. how can you represent the unknown numbers or quantity(ies) ?
4. how can you represent the problem using symbols,variable(s) and numbers ?
5. what are the words in the text will you use to set an equation
6.is the equation a first degree equation or non first degree equation
