Which identifies all the integer solutions of |x| = 17? A. –17 only B. –17 and 17 C. 0 only D. 17 only I am so confused on this one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well this |x| is a modulus function, so if you put in any value of x inside | | you will get the positive value of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be B because if you plug in -17 or 17 into x, it equals to 17. That's what the absolute symbols are those two vertical lines on the sides of x. It doesn't matter whether x is positive or negative, the final answer is always positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so |9| will give you 9 and |-9| will also give you 9

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\bf |x| = 17\implies \begin{cases} +(x) = 17\\ \quad \\ \bf -(x) = 17 \end{cases}\) solve for "x" in each scenario, you'd get 2 values for "x"

Thank you very much. Again haha Math is my worst subject. I fail miserably at it, as you can probably tell. But thanksss!
