what is the maximum or minimum value of x^2-4x+9 a. the maximum value is 5 b. the maximum value is -5 c. the minimum value is -5 d. the minimum value is 5

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Do you understand that that is the equation of a parabola?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i got the graph ive just forgotten b/c my darn computer lost all the notes ive typed :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, like Mertsj said, you know that a parabola have only one minimum/maximum which depend on its orientation (coefficient of x^2 positive or negative will answer this).

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Well if you have the graph, look at it. Does it have a high point or a low point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its low

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Is it at 5 or -5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 5 but minimum right?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

then choose minimum at 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o gotcha, this other person here who tryed helping me said stuff about something being opposite n im terrible at alg. 2 sorry, n thanks
