A dress that normally costs $69.50 is on sale for 45% off. What is the sale price for a dress? Can somebody explain to me how to solve this problem please?
You multiply it by the remainder of the cost. So, you take 100%, subtract the 45% discount to get 55%, then you take the price of $69.50 and multiply it by .55 (which is the same as 55/100 or 55%). You should end up getting $38.225, but since money cant be a fraction, you round to $38.23
Thank you so much Don (:
wait what do i when instead im adding a percent ?! like if im at a restaurant and i add a tip how do i figure out the cost?
No prob! And tips are different. What you do is take the total, and add what gratuity is asked (usually ranges from 15% to 20%). To find that, just do: [Food cost] x (1. __ ). The blanks are filled by the percent value. For example: Your date w/ your significant other costs you $42.50, and your service was so good you want to tip 20%. What you'd do is do $42.50 x 1.20, which equals $51.00
