I need help analyzing a political cartoon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Well, the obese man represents the american government, a huge and 'obese' man, overstuffed with what he is about to consume, which is spending. Obama is saying "You need to cut back, so we withheld the sprinkles". He claims you need to cut back, yet he continues to hand over a massive portion of icecream (or spending money) but claims theyve made cutbacks... comparable to taking away the sprinkles. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait sorry...wrong image

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im so sorry, One sec, I upload the right one, i had a few but this isnt the one i want

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

haha its okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here we go

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

This image is basically a representation of how the government will take away the fairly earned money of the poor without any empathy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see how that works but could you be a little more detailed?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The "Obama doesn't care" program.

OpenStudy (dan815):

-.-

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

what?!

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Well, the child, of course, is defenseless from saying no, and has very little money, he presumably worked very hard to earn it. Then the tax collectors come, and apathetically take away all of his earnings give out a very overused excuse to all tax payers.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

@Ashleyisakitty, true...!

OpenStudy (dan815):

the first one is saying govt spending mass ammount of money for their own benefit.. and the skinny retricepoor ppl are like... we gonna play u slightly less, showing that everyone outside these wealthy government ppl are poor and starved... and theyre fighting to lower some cost.. but hardly succeeding, yet they continue to pay the gov thinking its for their own benefit..

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Do you guys agree to this cartoon from a real point of view?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

still typing

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

I agree to the first one, wholehearitly. The second one, i mostly agree with. I think that using Obama as the man stating the excuse has some arguments within it. Obama has told the American people countless times about the Obamacare system, and that he truly cares about Americans with low-income, however, he still seemingly continues to take.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

OK!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same here, I agree with Ashley

OpenStudy (dan815):

the 2nd one is.. how defenseless we are against the banks collecting debt.. theyre so big.. they empower you take all your money you worked hard for.. and if u fight back they play the its for the benefit of the country.. obama puppet speaking for the illuminati and new world order lolololol

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Are these cartoons really permitted... making fun of US pres, or a.t like that... NO?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Freedom of speech.

OpenStudy (dan815):

hahaha i wonder what would happen if u just started replying with some mass conspiracy rants

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

In the first cartoon the cook is Obama.....

OpenStudy (dan815):

ya dont worry about it solomon... this is it is in america they have no respect for people all in the name of freedom of speech

OpenStudy (dan815):

this is how it is in america*

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

No guys I am republican, (b/c I am an orthodox Jew)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can someone help me find the artist for the first pic?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

The reason why the first one is Obama, is because as the "owner" of the icecream shop, he makes the descisons as to how much one person can eat. He "cuts the sprinkles" back as a representation of telling the American people that they are, but yet he is giving massive amounts of icecream to the already obese man, ya see

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

artist? artist for what?

OpenStudy (dan815):

I mean come on.. The country was built on the basis of being a God fearing nation.. and they allow their media to blaspheme his name constantly 24/7, even though its obvious theyre doing it on purpose

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Ive been looking Yummy but i cant find any sources :/

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

and i cant read the damn signature at the bottom lol

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

@dan815, smae here, I totally agree..... (not even talking about California)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I can't read it either

OpenStudy (dan815):

oh also for the 2nd cartoon, not only is it showing how weak the people are... compared to the forces controlling the country.. and banks and what not... they public is also uneducated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, one last pic I need to have analyzed

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

which is why they chose a child, weak and naive.

OpenStudy (dan815):

as you can see, as if the kid being under 5 wasnt enough.. he wrong the e backwards

OpenStudy (dan815):

maybe it also shows how theres a lot of disability and mental problems in the country too..

OpenStudy (dan815):

he wrote*

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

What?!?!?! some of you guys must have major comp issues, base on the order of replies here

OpenStudy (dan815):

dyslexia and what not

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

The elephant in the photo represents Republicans, seeing as it is there symbol. He says "what could go wrong" as he flips the switch for the Govt. He is oblivious to the fact that there is an anvil about to land on his head, which is the negative result of offing the govt.

OpenStudy (dan815):

also shows that obama is just a spokesperson of these collectors

OpenStudy (dan815):

they use him to calm the public and keep them from revolting while they continue to rob them

OpenStudy (dan815):

LMAO

OpenStudy (dan815):

if someone read all these comments...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

These cartoon questions should be asked on those tests where they want to know how smart you are!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the anvil represents the oncoming of a negative effect the elephant represents the republican party, the quote represents their ignorance do I have this right?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Yes, that sounds correct.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

+

OpenStudy (dan815):

hahaha

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

means agree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the do not touch label symbolizes the much "fragile" state the government is in

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Think so

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

Yes, exactly. There are loud and obvious reasons to not turn off the govt, but yet he continues.

OpenStudy (dan815):

as well as the intricacy involved in their processess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay, I'm getting this!

OpenStudy (dan815):

its like a black box..

OpenStudy (dan815):

we cannot see the inner circuits and wiring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay and can I get a general purpose for this comic

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

ya i love political cartoons

OpenStudy (dan815):

shows the general publics knowledge on the internal affairs of its government...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dan815 you're digging deeper, past the meaning

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

The general purpose is to show how stupid the republicans are for turning of the gvt, word that however you may like

OpenStudy (dan815):

even its the republicans and the officials themselves have no clue of its inner workings.. they are simply able to pass bills wihtout knowing the consequences or why theyre being coerced into it

OpenStudy (dan815):

lol yummdum dont worry

OpenStudy (dan815):

your teacher will mark anything right in this case

OpenStudy (dan815):

u can even tell him how loud these republicans .. are with their long nose trumpet sounds

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I don't agree with cartoon, as for real

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Again, you're missing the actual meaning...

OpenStudy (dan815):

oh sry

OpenStudy (dan815):

i thought u already got that down

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

ME? I am not analyzing in this comment, .... or may be you're right, I misunderstood it.

OpenStudy (dan815):

these are side points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman i was saying that to dan815

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

In a way, i can see how he could be right, but maybe thats just because i like to interpret things. "u can even tell him how loud these republicans .. are with their long nose trumpet sounds" The Republicans are being loud by doing an insanely dramatic and costly event over a very small problem.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

When I get mentioned does that affect my scores in any way?

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

just like an angry 11 year old girl

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

ppl mentioned me 10 times just now

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Is that to me, angry 11 yr.... hope not

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

no being mentioned doesnt increase score... solomon you dont follow conversations very well

OpenStudy (dan815):

do u have anymore cartoons??

OpenStudy (dan815):

these are interesting lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ehh, I'm gonna stick to the basic points. Don't want to end up losing points for saying something extra and incorrect

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I just asked a side question, I know ambass sorry! i am out

OpenStudy (dan815):

i should start studying for my exam soon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@dan815 here's a website, knock yourself out! http://townhall.com/political-cartoons/garyvarvel/2013/08/27/111765

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

I wonder if Preetha would have the ability to set up some sort of bi-weekly event to discuss politcal cartoons with other Openstudiers??hmm just a thought. Its been fun yall, hope i helped

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks Ash :)

OpenStudy (dan815):
