What is the total cost of a $56.53 meal at a restaurant after including a 17% tip? what do i do when instead of subtracting to find the percent i add to find a total of a certain number?

I had explained this to someone earlier actually! What you do is just multiply $56.53 by 1.17. That represents 117% (100% for the meal and 17% for the tip). Hope that helps! You should get $66.1401, but since you cant have a hundredth of a penny, its just $66.14. :)

that's absolutely correct. You can do that or you can multiply the total by multiply 56.53 by 0.17 then add what you got to 56.53 and you get 66.1401.
