Help please? I SUCK AT AlGEBRA!!!! Solve: -2x - 15 = 6x + 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have your answer

OpenStudy (falco276):

What is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dw:1382026649800:dw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What grade are you in?

OpenStudy (falco276):

oh, okay. I'm in 11th.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in 8th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did that stuff in 5th

OpenStudy (falco276):

WOW. *amazed*

OpenStudy (falco276):

What county are you from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

USA

OpenStudy (falco276):

oh, ok. nevermind.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in Florida

OpenStudy (falco276):

Awesome! I'm from Florida too!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cool

OpenStudy (falco276):

What city? I live in Gainesville.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Merritt Island

OpenStudy (falco276):

Ohhhh.... I see. Where is that? South?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

About an hour away from Orlando

OpenStudy (falco276):

Oh, ok. :D I gave away your prize already! Have fun with it! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you very much

OpenStudy (falco276):

you're welcome. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you need help with any other Algebra problem let me know and I'll try to help

OpenStudy (falco276):

wait I may have another question: Solve: -5x = 15 -3 3 10 20

OpenStudy (falco276):

Will it be 3?

OpenStudy (falco276):

I know this one's quite obvious but still.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

https://www.mathway.com <<Very helpful

OpenStudy (falco276):

mathway? :?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It solves Algebra problems so you can do a problem then check it to see if it is right. Do NOT misuse it. Cheating is VERY VERY BAD.

OpenStudy (falco276):

Oh cool! They say the anser directly! But the only problem is they ask you money to see steps. :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats why you must do your own work first

OpenStudy (falco276):

Right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (falco276):

yeah. :D

OpenStudy (falco276):

4x - 9 = 15 I may know this one but am not sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

btw the answer to the other question is also -3

OpenStudy (falco276):

I know.:) I got that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=6

OpenStudy (falco276):

6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dw:1382027893310:dw

OpenStudy (falco276):

Ahhh...okay. Now I get it. :) I have another: maybe last. In order to solve the equation -3x - 6 = 5, the first step is to: add 6 to both sides divide by 5 on both sides subtract 6 from both sides multiply by 5 on both sides

OpenStudy (falco276):

So you simply use like terms on both sides right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as my 5th grade teacher says "x wants to be alone" lol.

OpenStudy (falco276):

But x equals to a number right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dw:1382028184289:dw

OpenStudy (falco276):

At the part which it it says '6+6=5+6' do you add them first and that's how you get x= 11/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to cancel out the negative six on the left side because you have to get x alone, but to be able to add 6 to cancel out -6, you must add 6 to the right side also. Then you simplify. You get -3x=11. You still have to get x alone so you must cancel out the 3. The negative sign belongs to the x. Like with nouns and adjectives 3 describes how many x's there are. The opposite of multiplication is division so -3x÷3=11÷3 because what is done to one side must be done to the other. 3÷3 is 1 so that leaves one negative x. -x=11/3. You arent solving for negative x though, you are solving for positive x so since -x=11/3 that makes x=-11/3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes? No? Maybe? Even more confused than before?

OpenStudy (falco276):

Slightly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Slightly more confused than before or understand slightly?

OpenStudy (falco276):

understand slightly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (falco276):

:)

OpenStudy (falco276):

I'll tag you in whenever I need help, okay? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cool

OpenStudy (falco276):

Question closed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bye

OpenStudy (falco276):

bye. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Btw my real name is Samantha

OpenStudy (falco276):

okay, I have another question. @LadyKatsaTheGraceling Let f(x) = -4x + 7 and g(x) = 10x - 6, find f(g(x)). -40x + 24 -40x + 31 -40x + 64 -40x + 70

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh geez I haven't done that for a while let me think.
