There really is no right answer to this, as there is different points of views you could look at this from. In my opinion no they were not correct in thinking that. They way the Europeans saw the way the Native Americans behaved and acted socially was savage. Mostly because they were so primitive and vulnerable. So instead of helping them and teaching them how to advance and excel they took advantage and slaughtered them.
