graph the given function to determine whether its one-to-one find the inverse function algebraically f(x)=x^2-10x x>=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=x ^{2}-10x, x \ge5\]

OpenStudy (***[isuru]***):

nope! the shape of the graph is a parabola ... so it can never be a one to one graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subsitute the x values from 5 onwards...yu will see that initially it will be negative for x=5...and then since x^2 term grows much faster than x term ,so this function will initially decrease to zero and then will increase

OpenStudy (***[isuru]***):

'cause always u will find 2 value for x when y is equal to some value ... this is done by horizontal line test .... do u know about it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so..this way the cup shape will be there which means its many to one function

first how do i find the inverse - i know the answer in the book is \[f ^{-1}(x)=5+\sqrt{x+25}\]
