Is the following relation a function? x y 1 -2 1 -3 2 1 3 -2 Yes No

OpenStudy (lena772):

@kraken123

OpenStudy (lena772):

@SACAPUNTAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does each input only give one output? :D

OpenStudy (lena772):

Sorry just one more I missed this.

OpenStudy (lena772):

Yes they all give one output, but a 2 give the same outputs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you're thinking of it in terms of \(x = f(y)\) but they are probably asking as \(y = f(x)\). Anyway, for the input of x=1, what output do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its not

OpenStudy (lena772):

y=-2 and -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right, so... that means it's not a function.

OpenStudy (lena772):

Thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= 1 has 2 values of y i.e -2 and -3, also if you look from "y" perspective then too for y=-2 we get 2 values of x. so its not a function either way
