What is the purpose of the Leyden jars in the Wimshurst machine?

rough idea is : Leyden jars were early type of capacitors which were suitable for high voltages...so in Wimshurst machine, they are used to store electric charge between it's two electrodes

idk if this helps...but Wimshurst machine produces electrostatic charge and Leyden jars store that charge
